The last time this peak was activated was in 2013. I think there’s a reason for that.
With a 4-hour walk to the summit and a total ascent of 1,063 metres, this is not an afternoon hike.
It’s joked that the only time you see people in this area is during hunting season
My backpack weighed 17 kg on departure, because these are places you absolutely shouldn’t go without bringing your own safety equipment such as mittens, insulated wind bag, InReach (there is of course no mobile phone coverage except at the very top), first aid kit, etc.
And yes, I carry heavy radio equipment (icom 7000 and LiFePo4/96Wh), and based on experience, I have brought double sets of antennas/cables.
This is probably one of the peaks in my region (eastern Norway) where you have the longest view. I could see mountain peaks 140km away.
In terms of radio, it was a very fast activation with 12 QSOs in 8 minutes. This was due to the fact that there was a strong wind at the top, about 17 metres/second in the gusts.
A fantastic hiking experience.
On the way home I saw capercaillie, mountain hare and a big elk
The trip was perfect!
