50 years ago I’d just left the RN as a Radio Operator and never touched a morse key again until I became a ham a few years ago…

I know it’s only just 2025 but that does mean Dr. Feelgood’s “Down By The Jetty” is 50 years old this year. Rated in the top 100 debut albums world wide ever and I agree with that wholeheartedly.
I’ve been going to see bands for nearly 50 years now. I’ve seen bands that soon disappeared, I’ve seen stadium acts, I’ve seen bands that have become their own tribute act. And I have seen Dr. Feelgood quite a few times. I think that possibly the two greatest concerts of all time that I have seen were

- Dr. Feelgood, Fforde Grene Hotel, Jun 10th 1982

This reminded me that I have the original LP (not the Collectors Edition) and after a bit of rummaging I managed to find it.
Yes - recorded in Mono in 1975. I think it was the following year that I saw them play at the Liverpool Stadium

Oh that would be the tour when they recorded the album Stupidity. Those two old gigs I listed they were possibly the tightest band I’ve ever seen. They all knew what to do and when to do it and did it perfectly. The songs were good, the playing sublime and sound was perfect.
“I said ‘Darlin` do you want to have some fun’?
She put her hand on hip,
And her finger on her lip,
And she took hold of her zip,
And she said all right.”
That could be possibly the most suggestive chorus I’ve heard 
I’ve seen the all new Dr. Feelgood a few years back. None off the original members but they did the same material and style and were doing fine work to justify playing under that name. I saw them in 1981 with Johnny Guitar and 1982 with Gordon Russell. I still remember me and the lady who is now Mrs. FMF having to hold our small table so Gordon Russell didn’t break it or fall off as he played his big solo of the evening whilst standing on it. He nearly spilt my pint! You don’t get up close and personal to the band in stadium concerts. It’s why I like small venues.
My vinyl copy is mono. I have a CD collection of the first albums and I’m not sure if it has been remixed into stereo on that.
Ah, but… do you still have the means to play it? I still like to play vinyl on occasion on one of my two systems. Yes, two! 
I’m (just) too young to have seen them in concert, but they are rather good, aren’t they? I own their hits CD - Case History (1987).
