It’s time to start making plans and reservations for the great W7O SOTA Campout! We are going to go back to Broken Arrow Campground at Diamond Lake, north of Crater Lake National Park, same as 2023, July 25-28th, 2025. So far it is a heavy snow year, so we are shooting for a later date, hoping the Crater Lake Rim will be fully accessible by the 25th. We will focus on making reservations in the C,D, and E loop. I will try to get E03 again for our site and for gathering. Remember, make a reservation even if you are a bit uncertain, cancellation fee is minimum, but ALWAYS inform me if you are canceling your site so we can try to fill it with another SOTA op. It really helps to have an area that is only us, rather than with non-SOTA campers scattered within. Reservations will open 6 months in advance so be prepared to make your reservations January 25th-28th (I think we will be able to reserve 7/25-28 on 1/25 but it might have us wait until 1/28).
We had intent to do 2025 closer to Bend, but it did not pencil this year and that will be the tentatively plan for mid July 2026.
Below is a lot of great details cut and paste from 2023’s announcement. In 2023 many people reached new summits (first activations) that are not on the list but I think most have summaries connected to their reference, some great youtube out there too. We always have a lot of fun and adventures, and this was an area many wanted to come back to as there was no way one could activate all the summits in the area in a weekend
We hope you can join us!

Crater Lake NP and Diamond Lake are full of some incredible peaks and vistas surrounding the unique remains of Mt. Mazama’s eruption 7,700 years ago, forming a caldera and our deepest lake in the USA. The CLNP summits are partially the peaks around the edge of the natural caldera of the deep blue natural lake, with numerous pumice and lava cones surrounding it. Mt. Scott W7O/CS-003, towards the eastern edge, its one of my very favorite mountains. Closer to Diamond Lake is the impressive spire-topped Mt. Thielsen, a challenging climb only for the skilled climber but great to look at too! Some summits in this area aren’t as easy as what we had last year but there is still some options for everyone, including some drive ups or short treks.
