49MHz PMR

This quiery may be off-topic unless the set can be modified for use on the 6M band.

My neighbour, G8RIK, has been given a 49MHz PMR fm set labelled CTVR-40. Any ideas where we might search for info on possible circuit/modifications. Many thanks in advance.

In reply to M0DFA:

I’ve not heard of that particular set but if it is a true PMR set & not just a “licence exempt” low power 49MHz transceiver there may be some information available from members of the UK 6 Metre group.

I still have a couple of Realistic 49MHz transceivers, which I keep for whenever I need to conduct EMC tests with my neighbours. I remember a mod appearing in either Radcom or Practical Wireless to convert them to 6m FM, but I didn’t bother converting mine.

I also have a pair of PMR446 handelds for the same purpose.

Thankfully, neither have needed to be used for several years.

Hi Dave

I had one of those many years ago, and had absolutely no success
in finding out any details for it. From recollection it looks
like a 40 channel CB set. I remember taking off the covers to
to examine the internals, and all the IC’s had had their
identification wiped off!

Good luck Dave

Kind regards
