We are holding the 3rd OE5-SOTA-Day on Saturday, September 21, 2013.
This year we will activate summits around the city of Ebensee. There are plenty of summits in this area. The cablecar to Feuerkogel puts a few 6 and 8-pointers in relatively easy reach.
There are no fixed times or frequencies, the usual SOTA QRGs, and in particular 145.500 FM would be a good starting point. This is a good opportunity for S2S QSOs on 2m and 70cm FM, but there will be also activity on short wave bands.
We will then all meet at 16.00 local time (=14.00 UTC) at the Restaurant Urznwirt (www.urzn.at) on Gmundnerberg. The twist here is that the restaurant is just slightly outside of the activation zone of Gmundnerberg, OE/OO-106. I guess that after food and drink some of the activators will hike up for another activation.
If you are in the area please join in. Everybody is welcome! Some Alerts to activations are already appearing on SOTAWatch. Watch out for more!
The weather forecast for Saturday is not great with occassional rain and temperatures around 12°C. We will hold the OE5-SOTA Day as planned. I would expect though that there will be changes in the alerts towards less difficult summits.
This years OE5-SOTA Day was not blessed with fine weather. We had a cloud cover all day and occassional drizzle. Mountains higher than about 1000m were actually in the clouds with no visibility and equipment getting soaking wet. Nevertheless there were roughly 25 activations going on in the area around Ebensee. We had more than 20 participants at the Get-together in the Restaurant. We can call the 3rd OE5-SOTA Day a success!
