Sunday 31st August 2025 is the next “1296 Alive” event in the UK. After talking to a couple of other activators we’re hoping to use the event to activate a few summits on the 23cm band that day.
I activated GW/MW-027 during the last event and managed 14 contacts with a modest setup.
If anyone wants to join in - either activating, chasing or just seeing who else they can find on the band please feel free to join in.
The main 1296 Alive event (Redirecting...) runs from 12-3pm BST. It’s not a contest, just an opportunity to try and make contacts.
If anyone wants to try higher bands (13cm, 3cm etc.) then post up an alert and join in - many of the fixed 23cm stations have other microwave bands available to chase.
Hi Dom,
If the transverter is still supplied with a small PC board antenna, that is surprisingly effective. I’ve had lots of contacts with it mounted directly on the transverter, just sitting on a trig point - so it can be quick to deploy once it arrives
I got mine a few months ago and it came with the PCB antenna.
I used it last weekend with the transverter plugged into my FT3D like a giant HT for a quick S2S with @M0JKS.
I can also vouch for it’s effectiveness. As an experiment, I rigged the SG transceiver barefoot and the PC board Yagi on my 10metre mast during the 23cm Ukac. Furthest contact was Pete G4CLA 168km, that’s with my QTH at 34metres ASL. I’m sure that Pete has a super station, but still not bad. Simon G7WKX/P 44km away on G/TW-004, was 59 both ways.
Just bumping this before next Sunday and hopefully the weather will improve because I’m not sure how easy it will be to operate on 23cm from my bothy bag
I nearly broke the 200km mark on the band from the Brecon Beacons a couple of weekends ago, so all sorts are possible with even a modest setup:
Unfortunately I have been on the road today, so no time to get onto the band. Hopefully when the next event comes around I’ll be free. At least my SG Labs transverter seems to be working okay and has been installed in a protective case. I look forward to giving it a whirl with my 15 over 15… Jaybeam, remember them?
Per the weather forecast Manod Mawr GW/NW-035 was wet and very windy. This meant I had to set up in the lee of the hill, unfortunately blocking off the south.
