This year’s spring campout is moving a bit further north in Virginia to Sherando Lake campground. Located just off of the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the southern end of Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park, there are plenty of summits near by. And with easy access to I-64 & I-81, that opens many more opportunities for W4V and W8V summits.
Like all of our W4 campouts, come when you can and leave when you have to. We encourage everyone to show up - activators, chasers and newbies. It is always a great way to take a deep dive into activating SOTA summits with so many experienced activators around willing to share the trail and summits with hams new to SOTA.
Hahaha, all participating campout activators, either in person or S2S, will receive a complementary Star Wars Day badge in SOTAData courtesy of the MT.
It is a popular campground and sites do go quickly, but I still see a bunch of sites (>20ish) available. Double check your dates and hope to see you there!
@KC5BG Mike, I hope you found a site that will work for you!
We have a couple of other events associated with our campouts that we encourage everyone to join even if you aren’t camping with us (local activators and especially our loyal chasers).
Friday, May 2nd, 5-7 p.m. - Après-SOTA drinks and dinner at Blue Mtn Brewery. Stop in for a casual, family (and pet) friendly happy hour to share tales of the days activations.
Saturday, May 3rd, 6-? - Our traditional big get together dinner will be at the group picnic shelter at the campground. Pot luck dinner or catered TBD. There is a gate code for the campground and we will monitor 146.52 for anyone heading our way.
