Hello,
today i have made a nice sota activation from Monte Cuneo / Moncuni I/PM-263 near my hometown Torino. In total 11 qso using ssb & cw, after the upload of the log on the Sota Database i take a look of the map… and found that i have had qso with two Somalian station… but it’s not true The are IX1CKN & M1GEO… from Chris IX1CKN… i always see his qso plot from Somalia… with M1GEO it’s the first time. Here is the map:
Well, to be completely honest, I didn’t set any latitude nor longitude, only filled the mandatory fields (as the image below shows). I’d say the system decides that I’m in Somalia…
Very strange. I can confirm that my details were (and have always been, since I joined) correct. Probably goes without stating, but I’ve never been to Somalia. Perhaps it was a pirate using my callsign
It’s probably as simple as updating the profile. Early on not all lat/lons propagated on creation but only did on update. Long since fixed but if it’s always been that way, might be all you need to do (add a 0 or something)
Yes just adding a 0 at the end of lat or long in your account will force the update.
I just tried this on someone’s account who worked me recently but was appearing to be in the Indian Ocean. (Oh the power of admin access ) Anyway, select update account and adding a 0 to lat and long and saving the changes results in them appearing in the correct place now.
On my SOTA profile, the Lat. Long. puts me in the Indian Ocean - now corrected. On the SOTA database QSO maps, it always puts me at my old QTH near Peterhead.
However, now that I’ve changed my Lot. Long., it seems to have fixed everything!
