2 meter CW in Southern California

I am happy to report that 2 meter CW SOTA activation’s have been picking up in Southern California. Just to let future SOTA activator’s know, I am always looking for 2 meter activation’s and listening on 144.100. I look forward to working many more on 2 meter CW. I am running an ICOM 746pro at 100 watts into a Ringo Ranger.

2m SSB and CW is a fantastic mode for portable ops, you can easily carry gain antennas to the summit, a lot of chasers have huge beans they can swing at you, and elevation of the mountain gives you predictable line of sight propagation paths.

I had some surprising QSOs on 2m SSB when operating portable with a few watts. I would go home and look at a contour map, and discover a narrow line of sight path to the chaser that I would never have guessed was there – gaps between mountain ranges, unexpected topologies…

2m CW activity here in VK3 is almost non-existent last time I was listening, I would like to see it pick up. Good luck with your 2m CW work.

I’m looking in to 2m CW too. I think a lot of the recent uptake might be due to the Quansheng CEC and IJV firmware updates now featuring CW for 2 and 70 (the world’s favourite bands  ).

I loaded CEC 0.3Q to my Quannie yesterday and gave 2m CW a quick tickle. No replies or reports but it was good to test it using the PTT as a key.

I have a paddle on the way from Ali Express that plugs directly in to the Quannie. No modifications needed apparently on CEC when you use that. We’ll see…

Keen to try and get 2/70 CW hoppin’ in Ireland. The band allocation is there for us to use. Let’s use it! Make 270 Great Again!

What’s wrong with that? Hams have always used beans.
They put them at the top of a bean pole. The beans are attached to a beanstalk.

Adding beans to the beanstalk makes it bean better.

Beanstalks with only a few beans are broad beans.

Some hams also use string beans but they spread out all over the place like a bowl of bean soup.

All this talk of beans is making me thirsty, I’m off to the Shebean…

beans = beams, but I like VK3HN’s answer better than mine!
