Hi all,
In a few weeks I’ll be spending a week in the Grenoble area and hope to activate a handful of summits around the 2000 m mark.
I’m wondering what the current level of activity on 2 m SSB/CW is in that part of France (maybe stretching to Lyon area and Provence). Is it realistic to expect at least one contact, or ideally the four QSOs needed to get the points for an activation?
The limiting factor is probably not the radio horizon. From 2000 m A.S.L. I would expect a coverage radius of at least 200 km, maybe more. My concern is simply whether there are enough active stations listening on 144 MHz SSB/CW.
I can, of course, take the QMX and a wire as a backup, but I’d really like to focus on 2 m if there is a reasonable chance of qualifying the summits.
I’d be very interested to hear from local operators or anyone with recent experience in the area.
Many thanks in advance!
