This year’s OE5 SOTA DAY was (once again) a great event! It was a lovely sunny and warm day, I spent over three hours on the summit and made 80 QSO in total and had 45 S2S contacts.

The meeting at the restaurant was great fun, good to chat with so many other SOTA operators. I’m sure Joe OE5JFE will post some photos of the meeting here soon.

Thanks @OE5JFE for organizing this year’s OE5 SOTA DAY!

I also got pictures via email to share:

Newcomer in radio and SOTA Peter @OE5OSP shared his enthusiasm on his very first SOTA activation ever on summit OE/OO-063:

And SOTA CW fan Hermann @OE1HFC went to OE/OO-022 and joined the dinner with his XYL Traude. You can spot them in the pictures from the meeting:

And here some pictures from our kinda special tour to Wasserkogel. @OE5YYN @OE5HKT
We went by boat to the other side of lake Traunsee and hiked up to the rare remote summit Wasserkogel OE/OO-352 . A seperate video will be available when I find time to edit it.

Sunny and warm weather on the Eiskogel … 67 QSOs (24 2m FM, 43 ssb on 20m and 40m) with 32 summit to summit - and a lunch break

(The view to Traunstein and lake Traunsee was from the restaurant Urzn - not from Eiskogel )

Thank you @OE5JFE for organizing OE5 SOTA Activity Day 2026!

Bernhard DL1MAB and I (OE5LXR) greatly enjoyed the Kaiserwetter while activating OE/OO-117 “Buchberg”, as well as the subsequent visit to the restaurant. A joy that could not be diminished, even with an extra 3 hour roundtrip aquiring my backup car keys since I managed to lock mine inside the trunk of my car :joy: (not even ÖAMTC - the :austria: automotive club could open it).

Looking forward to next year!

All the best,

Many thanks for organizing this amazing event! It was for sure one of my best weekends this year  :austria:

Some impressions from my activation of Traunstein OE/OO-038. I’m honored to have activated the summit that can be seen in the background of our group picture :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I already ascended on Friday and spent the night in the hut. I really enjoyed this beautiful sunset over Traunsee.

I wasn’t sure whether I should carry the extra weight of the IC-705 for HF as well as 2m SSB/CW, but in the end I decided to take it with me. And when I started on 20m on Saturday morning and made my first-ever long-path S2S with VK, I knew it had been worth it :australia:
In total, I made four S2S QSOs with VK that morning on 20m long-path, followed by countless great S2S QSOs on 2m, mostly with neighbouring summits, but also with activators in my home region DM/BM. And the 2m ODX was a CW QSO with Arthur @HB9CEV, 354 km away on HB/SG-013.

But I have to admit that I’m still suffering from sore muscles after that tour. Surprisingly I think, that the ascent wasn’t the problem. It was the very steep descent with the heavy backpack! :joy:
