I will either be on Mount Battock, Lochnagar, or cosy inside my Land Rover from Cairn o’Mount if its raining.
This is a great opportunity for 2m FM summit to summits and 2m FM activations across the country. There are nets planned for almost every square across the country.
For more info, refer to the 145 Alive facebook group.
I’ll be hiking with Chris @2M0RVZ and we’ll be taking in Carn a’Mhaim at 1145h before heading up to Ben Macdui for the 1300h 145 Alive event. 145.250Mhz. Chris has HF kit, so plenty of variety on GM/ES-013 and GM/ES-001 tomorrow.
@MM0RFN Hibby will activate Glas Maol GM/ES-012 for the event. 145.575Mhz
Alex @GM5ALX is heading up to activate Waughton Hill GM/ES-087 on 2m but won’t be there for the duration of the 145 Alive event.
Hi Fraser, I’ll be doing an HF CW activation on GM/SS-172 Lamington Hill early afternoon today [~1:45pm BST] on my way up to the Glasgow area. I don’t have much time on summit (30-45 mins) but was wondering whether to take my 2m FM HT and monitor this event during the walk up or walk down. I’m not familiar with 145 Alive, it sounds a bit like a chaired net where each op takes his turn to make contact with the others.
I’m setting off soon so don’t have time to research it but maybe the Carrick Hills or Kilmarnock group will be in range. Can I just join in even if not having read the rules?
Also, if anyone is activating a summit in the G/SC area, you can break into our net on 145.425 organised/operated by M7MFS for a few quick contacts. This runs every Sunday from 1pm.
I’m at the home QTH today, but can easily head up to G/SC-004 if anyone wants a S2S contact (it takes about 25 minutes to get there). Radio charged and rucksack ready.
Hi Omar 2E0OMX and thanks for the complete you gave me a fortnight ago from Staple Hill G/SC-004 when I was on Win Green G/SC-008 on the way to the Channel Isles Ferry. Using only VHF and UHF I have a long list of hills that I want to complete as I only operate from summits (so they all have to be s2s under my own personal rules!) and you happened to be up one of them. Now I have only got Nine Barrow Down on the incomplete list for the area but I’m not often near enough to listen out.
I can certainly say that I had a great welcome to the net when I popped up and easily achieved enough contacts for Win Green and some interesting brief chats. Many tx. Sorry I shan’t be out today to join in the fun.

Lovely to QSO - we first made contact when I was on G/SC-008 myself, how felicitous.
I wasn’t intending to be up a summit, but I could hear M3ZCB and M1MAJ were up a summit, so I jumped in the car to give them a S2S and then you happened be out too. Perfect day.
That was very entertaining. I thought I’d pop out and give a bit of support. I was in 2 minds to take the 705 but in the end lethargy and last-minute-itis meant I took the KX2 and handy I nearly forgot the handy till Mrs FMF asked me if I had batteries etc. Back for the handy which had a quite flat battery. Luckily I have a power cable for the VX170 that can connect to the KX2 battery so it could charge up whilst playing HF.
I was off chasing looking for completes and I thought Dave MM0RFN on Glas Maol ES-012 and Vic GM4JIB on Blackcraig SS-070 were completes but I had already completed them. Never mind, both rock crushing signals onto the VX-170 handy and its rubber duck. Andy GM8CPZ was a complete on Lamington Hill SS-172. As was Alain MM7BPR on Dumyat SS-216. I thought I’d chased those two summits before but no. Lots and lots of other people on. I could hear M0LLC down in England, from the accent probably somewhere in Northumberland.
Loudest of them all was Fraser MM0EFI on Ben Macdui ES-001. He said he was running 30W into a vertical and was 59+++++ with me. Now ES-001 is the place for a LoRa digi, it would probably cover 80% of the GM landmass
14 on 10m SSB/CW Nice to work Cal VO1CAL on Newfoundland on 10m SSB and after many months absence due to poor HF conditions, Randy ND0C (@ND0C) in MN. Randy may have a Yagi but he only runs 5/10W. OK the antenna helps but 6200km QRP to QRP is always going to put a smile on my face.
15m was in good form I worked KC1MXB, WX1S, KC1NDQ, K8LJD, NC2W.
ODX was JA1VVH at 9100km also on 15m. Just a nice fist and good operator so I was pleased to get that logged.
Loudest of all signals was Christophe @ON6ZQ signing as AC6ZQ which has a WA state address. Not sure where Christophe was but he was 59+++++ on 15m CW and his signal was full of echo / reverb. Not quite round the world echoes with extra pings being heard but a mix of long and short path maybe.
Best thing heard on 2m, a local-ish GM accent talking to another GM bemoaning the fact that 2m was full of signals. “It’s stupid having to have some big event to get people to use the band. Well sod them, I’m not working any of these people who don’t use 2m unless there’s an event”. His mate seemed to agree with him. There they are moaning nobody uses the band and when it’s full of signals and some nice ‘DX’ for 2m FM they don’t want to get involved. Way to go man, you have a wonderful mindset there.
Up the Clee Hills today with Net Controller and organiser M0XJA, nice to get plenty of QSOs with new callsigns and even managed to catch Tim G5OLD on his SOTA activation of G/WB-016.
Glad to see plenty of SOTA activators getting involved in the event, M0XIC and M0XJA (clubmates of mine) spend alot of time organising it and it’s great to hear the majority had a good time.
Got back at 1900 from an epic day out on Carn a’Mhaim GM/ES-013 and then Ben Macdui GM/ES-001 for 145 Alive. Got there 20 minutes late and lasted about 90 minutes before it got just too cold. Managed 29 on 2m FM, from Orkney down to G/SB. Great to get a net going with a lot of the folks. I’ll put some photos and a full report on later.
My first 145alive event. Very much a last minute decision to take the 2m FM HT with me. Originally I planned to do only a HF CW activation of GM/SS-172 Lamington Hill (near Biggar) as I could only allocate about 30 minutes on-air time in my ‘break from driving’ from south Cumbria to Renfrewshire due to family commitments both ends.
I worked three 145alive nets but switched nets when a few net ops got into ragchew mode as - with no shelter from the cold wind and ‘hiding’ behind the trig point - I was getting cold quickly , Nice to work Andy @MM0FMF on Scald Law giving him a complete for Lamington Hill.
The qso rate was much lower than I’m used to as a SOTA activator where chasers are usually brief albeit still friendly. My time was up and I never got to use the HF gear. No matter, it was fun to take part in an event where 2m was busy for a change.
Thanks for the contact Andy - glad you could pull my 5 watts out! Our first one in about 10 months, but I think 10 meters is coming back to life, so we should have some more this season!
