Anyone who is planning an activation on 144 MHz this afternoon may like to know that there will be plenty of activity on SSB around the UK, as there are two, overlapping RSGB contests scheduled between 1300 UTC and 2000 UTC. In both contests, you are expected to give report, serial number, QTH Locator, and the first two letters of your postcode.

Just to make this a little clearer, the two contests start and finish at different times, but overlap:
1300-1700 UTC 4th 144MHz Backpackers
1400-2000 UTC 144MHz Low Power
And for those that like 70cm there is one on Sunday too:
0800-1200 UTC 432MHz Low Power

Hi Stewart
August RadCom page 75, gives the times for the Backpackers to be 1100-1500 UTC !
in the write-up G3ZVW says " … overlapping in the final hour …"
Which is correct ?

Thanks Stewart & Roger
It would appear G3ZVW got it wrong in his column - it makes sense to have a bigger overlap in the contests, to give the chance of more activity / QSO’s

I agree - go with the website…but I’m sure it usually (or used to) starts at 11.00…
Horrible day for it in this part of the world though…V Heavy rain in South Northumberland

Correction to information published in RadCom—4th 2m Backpackers Contest on Saturday 6 August
The 4th 2m Backpackers Contest on Saturday 6 August runs from 1300-1700UTC, not 1100-1500 as printed in the August RadCom.
From RSGB web site.
