In 2025, we will celebrate 10 years since establishing LZ SOTA association. On this occasion there will be a special call sign LZ10SOTA from 01.01.2025 until 31.12.2025.
I also want to share with you a not very popular but interesting fact about the history of high mountain expeditions in Bulgaria.
In 1974, the radio club of the city of Plovdiv LZ1KSP organized the “First radioamateur highmountain expedition marathon”. During this marathon some of the highest peaks of the Bulgarian mountains were activated: Musala LZ/RL-001, Vihren LZ/PS-001, Cherni Vrah LZ/KV-001, Bogdan LZ/SG-001, Persenk LZ/RO-004, Ruen Z3/EM-001 on 3,5 and 144MHz with 1W transmitter.
Members of this expedition team were: LZ1CD - Radko, LZ1KC - Varuzhan, LZ1QH - Mitko, LZ1CY(SK) - Angel, LZ1ZA(SK) - Ivan.
On December 1, 2015, the Bulgarian SOTA association was established by LZ1YAG - Yosif.
Since then more than 40 activators have taken part in the SOTA program.
On this special occasion, special paper QSL cards will be sent via QSL bureau for contacts with LZ10SOTA.
It is a very nice memorial activation. It is very interesting for all chasers. But please remember that Greece is very close to Bulgaria and we need low frequencies to hear a bulgarian activator.
It just goes to show that we never invent anything!
I forgot to say that without the SOTA program and the references we would not have been able to see this feat
1974 leaves you dreaming!
I was 17 and the CW wouldn’t come until 1976.
You can count on me to chase you away and maybe some S2S…
To be continued
I was very pleased to be called by LZ10SOTA today. RF conditions were poor, K=5 A=26 with much QSB. But a QSO was made on 15m and it’s nice to get these special celebration calls into my log.
