Inspired by the OE5SOTA/OESOTA Day, the goal is to activate and operate on all 42 Chiemgau SOTA summits, ranging from Sattelberg (820m) to the Sonntagshorn (1,961m). We are especially excited about the Summit-to-Summit (S2S) contacts with other SOTA/GMA regions. Summit activators can activate the different summits on all amateur bands and modes available for us.
Starting now, our special event callsign DL25COA is in the air! A special QSL card will be issued.
Join us: Let’s turn our shared hobby into an unforgettable event!
Are you planning to participate? If so, please send us a email to coa2025@charly16.de.
All participants (hunters, activators and enthusiasts) are warmly invited to gather afterwards on 2025-05-10T14:30:00Z at the beer garden or indoor of the Alpengasthof Hochberg near Traunstein.
Hello OMs,
I’m interested on DX-QSOs on 2m-FM with you. Yes, 2m-FM! It’s most possible. I’m using Yagi and 50W.
As a replacement for a SOTA-Summit I have the beautiful GMA summit OL/US-172 Pramenac OL/US-172 909ASL and free view in your direction.
The Chiemgau on the Air event was a big success, helped by the nice weather after a week of rain!
2m FM was really active - I logged about 45 QSOs on 2m FM alone, including 28 summit-to-summit (S2S) contacts, which shows how strong the participation was. Now I’ve got a long list of summits to activate to collect those completes!
We had a great meetup afterward, and I’m sure someone will post the group photo we took of all the participants.
A big thank you to all the organizers - I really hope this becomes an annual event!
On May 10, 2025, the first “Chiemgau on Air” (CoA) SOTA activity day took place in Chiemgau, organized by the DARC Traunstein chapter (C16). The goal was to activate all 42 SOTA summits of the Germany/Chiemgau SOTA Association (DL/CG) and establish radio links on various bands.
A total of 31 SOTA summits were successfully activated by 35 radio amateurs from Germany, Austria, and South Tyrol, making the event a complete success.
The event was accompanied by the special call sign DL25COA, created specifically for this event. Participants can look forward to a special QSL card for this special call, which serves as a memento of this special event. DL25COA will be on the air until the end of the year. At the end of the event, everyone met for a chat and a relaxed get-together at the Alpengasthof Hochberg near Traunstein.
The first “Chiemgau on Air” day was a complete success and demonstrated the enthusiasm and commitment of the amateur radio community in the region. With the activation of 31 SOTA summits and the use of the special call sign DL25COA, a landmark event was set for amateur radio in the Chiemgau region.
The C16 organizing team would like to thank all participants and supporters for this unforgettable day in the mountains.
And here my video from the activation.
Michael @OE5HKT with XYL Sandra came over to visit.
I had a bit bad luck with the wx. Nice on the way up and down but big cloud while I was on the summit. But a great S2S collection and later on the great meetup.
