Mountain Rescue - North Wales - Help with VHF

If there’s anyone out there who lives near Mold, N. Wales, UK that would like to give a bit of voluntary time to a local Mountain Rescue team then I could do with some assistance.

North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) operates 2 x Landrover 110’s and 2 x vans equipped with ICOM VHF analogue radios (marine band 155-161 MHz). We could do with someone with good vehicle install/fault finding skills to check out our current installations and make some recommendations as well as some actual practical repair/improvement work. Any components/cable used would be paid for, it’s just your time we are after.

You may ask why don’t I do it as I am an Amateur myself!? A fair question!

I’m one of two Deputy Team Leaders with NEWSAR and I do my best to fit in looking after some of the radio kit, but I know my limits, I’m a bit hamfisted at DIY and I stick to just fitting a few plugs and a bit of basic antenna fixing. I’m also incredibly busy with other aspects to the Operational running of the team.

So, if you would like to help a volunteer MR team and use your Amateur Radio skills then please reply here or you can email deputyteamleaderb@newsar.org.uk

This doesn’t have to be a long term commitment. Probably a day at a weekend spent at our base near Mold. But you never know, you might get hooked! We also have a permanent search support role available. See the link.

No takers so far. I’ll “bump” this to the top of the message list just this once, just in case anyone has missed it. Won’t do it again to hassle people.

Thanks for stopping by to look.
