Lost and found Kenwood TH-K20E

First of all, hello, I have just signed up here mainly to put out the following post, but a secondary reason is that I’ve worked a number of SOTA stations, mainly on 2m FM, and it will be good to see a bit more of what you are all about. I have put the following on a few other sites and it was suggested to me that it may have been a SOTA user that had left it behind, hence the posting here. I had a phone call at work today from a very honest guy in Dorset. He had found a radio and was trying to return it to its’ owner. Has anyone, or know anyone, who has recently lost a Kenwood TH-K20E? One has been found near to St Albans Head. If you think it maybe yours I can put you in touch with the finder. He will of course want to know just where you think that you lost it and other identifying features, such as the serial number. It would be good to get it back to its’ owner. First of all Bill.

Welcome to the asylum
The site is of most useful to the Sota user come chaser or activator full of well useful information.

Been on here since Sept last year and found my feet.
There a lovely bunch on here also
Welcome and enjoy.

Hopefully the owner will come forwards for the radio, bet he/she never thought they see that one again.

Karl

Hi Karl, thanks for the welcome. I know a few that partake and they all seem reasonably civilsed  I’ve posted about the radio in many places, so hopefully someone will pick up on it. I was pleased that the guy who found it took the trouble to try and track the owner down. When I spoke to him he was about to phone Martin Lynch and see if it was one they had sold. He was putting a lot of time and effort in to it.

Bill.

Hi Bill… I stuck a post on HRD. Didn’t know whether you’d already done that. Might be worth calling RSGB and see if you can get an entry in the next RadCom.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the SOTA reflector and thanks for posting the information regarding the radio. I have made a phone call to someone that might possibly own it, but it would appear that he is away at the moment, so I have left a message requesting that he look at this thread. I will keep trying to make contact.

In the past we have had pieces of equipment repatriated to grateful owners through SOTA members and honest people outside of the scheme, so let’s hope that this will be the case here.

Hi Gerald,
Many thanks for the phone message you left me.
Although the lost radio is not mine its kind of you to take the trouble to ask.
Phil G4OBK was on the 2 Dorset summits I visited last week , on 12th Feb .
If I can find his email I will ask him to take a look on SOTA reflector.

Thanks for e-mailing David. Not mine. I don’t have any Kenwood gear, other than a 2m VHF mobile set in my car.

It might be worth looking up activations of nearby summits, and cross referencing with the day or week it was found.

That is precisely what we did Doug. I phoned David G3RDQ as he was there about 10 days ago. The next in line was Phil G4OBK, then Rob G7LAS. It very much looks like this is a non-SOTA person, probably someone trying out their rig from the coastal headland to see how far they can get. When I have operated in that area I have found quite a few locals on 2m FM, so the rig may belong to one of them.
