Hi I'm Steve. I'm planning to activate W7Y/EW-003 on 9/8/15

Hi all. I saw the article about SOTA in CQ magazine a few months ago, and I was hooked. Since then, I got my general license, and have been preparing. My boss told me a few weeks ago I had an extra week of vacation to take before October, so I looked around to was relatively close to Iowa to activate. I was amzed to see that Wyoming has many many peaks that have not been activated. So Laramie peak it is. I hope there will be some chasers to contact. I dont really know CW, but I think I will be able to do psk31 and SSB and possibly rtty from my Yaesu FT817ND and my phone and/or windws tablet. I have constructed an offset fed dipole that definitely works on 10m, 15m, and 20m (tested last night), and hopefully with some tuning will work on 40m as well. I also have a little Baofeng HT that I will tune to the nearby repeaters on 2m and 70cm.

Im hoping that some of you can advise me what frequencies specifically I should use when I activate.

Thanks, and 73s Hope to contact some of you!

G day Steve nice to see you did the work to get your licence and do some SOTA.
Be warned there in no inoculation or known cure for sota fever.
SOTA ops usually hang out near or on QRP frequencies or if you place Alerts before you go out with a rough idea of the frequency your antenna resonates on best then Spot once you find a clear frequency when you are at the summit. Check out all these SOTA ops blogs and stuff, there is even a Face book page now too glean information and fellow ship from.
have fun 73
