GW/SW and MW Trip - Day 1 30/4/2016

Joined for the first three summits by “my local guide” Allan GW4VPX and his wife Val. Val and Sue (my wife) did some Geocaching on each summit, finding the little boxes and their interesting contents, while Allan and I played radio.

GW/MW-033 Mynydd Carningli - 1 point
2M FM, 5W FT-270 into Diamond X5000 also Allan’s FT-270 with the standard helical antenna
This summit is easily reached from the car parking place in about 20 minutes.
Six contacts, including a nice summit to summit with Bill GW4WSB up in North Wales.
Pictures show summit set up and the geocaching activity!

GW/MW-011 Foel Cwmcerwyn - 2 points
2M FM, 5W FT-270 into Diamond X5000 also Allan’s FT-270 with the standard helical antenna
We were very lucky that there had been quite a dry spell of weather which meant the walk across to the summit was easy, with relatively little deviation needed to avoid boggy areas.
Seven contacts including an unexpected S2S with Simon GW4TJC on Cadair Berwyn GW/NW-012.

GW/MW-028 Frenni Fawr - 1 point
2M FM, 5W FT-270 into Diamond X5000 also Allan’s FT-270 with the standard helical antenna
A very pleasant 30 minute walk in from the North West.
Six contacts all relatively local.

GW/MW-037 Brandy Hill - 1 point
2M FM, 5W FT-270 into Diamond X5000
Allan and Val headed for home from Frenni Fawr and so Sue and I drive down to this roadside summit. I activated from a gateway a couple of hundred metres west of the water works, still comfortably in the activation zone. After the activation I hopped into the field and followed the edge around to reach the trig point.
Just the four local contacts, before I needed to get a move on back to the hotel so we could make our dinner date back with Allan and Val.
