Ah… it seems we all have some soft spots for locos.
When I was a young boy down in Wiltshire, the only ones I saw regularly were “Cromptons” working between Portsmouth and Bristol/Cardiff, “Hoovers” working between London and Exeter and the odd “Brush 4” hauling stone from the Somerset quarries.
I did see a “Deltic” once on a school trip leaving from Kings Cross. I was suitably impressed.
