As a teenager in Brazil during the late 1980s, I first enjoyed radio through scouting (JOTA) and hunting for DX on 27MHz. After a long break to raise a family and pursue an academic career in computer science and engineering (posts in Brazil, Germany and England), my professional research in wireless networks rekindled my passion in the early 2020s. I then progressed rapidly through all three UK amateur license tiers, earning my Foundation license in Feb 2021 (M7LSI), my Intermediate license in Aug 2021 (2E1LSI), and finally my Full license in May 2022 (G5LSI).

I live in York, but operate portable very often, typically activating for SOTA and POTA. I never use /P after my callsign unless required by the regulations of the country I’m operating from. I try to bring a portable station with me whenever I travel abroad. So far, I operated from more than 25 DXCC countries, and activated summits and/or parks from most of them (which made me SOTA’s Globetrotter #9).
