For when? How about now in 2014?
Just doing a poll to activators and hunters!
I would love to line up on the idea.

What would happen at such an event apart from drinking beer?

What else would need to happen?

Serious post now… Nice idea Marq, but to be honest unless it was on my doorstep I probably wouldn’t travel. Unless maybe some exciting mountains to climb (with or without my radio) with local people.

Ham radio 2014 Friedrichshafen is the obvious choice June 27 - 29…my calendar is marked. Plenty of summits to activate en-route if you are driving there. Food wise add German sausage and wheat beer (of course) to the list. Delicious!

What would happen? Fellowship and enjoying the cameraderie of like minded radio amateurs.

i like the idea of a sota-meeting at friedrichshafen 2014. in the last years there was a short meeting at the QSL-wall … but i think a "real " sota-meeting with food, drinks an lots of sota-stories would be nice.
and it’s not far from f-hafen to HB0-land for a sota-activation

One thing is certain, Socialising, Drinks and Food will not be short of certainty.
But we can talk about … SOTA New challenges, QRP Equipment, Antennas, Software, Rails and SOTAMapping, GOS, APRS.
No shortage of lecture topics
It will be a huge benefit for the radio amateur and mountaineering

HI Gerald
And why not? Even though you can get in Scotland, then certainly it enlarges throughout Europe.
The point is to get started! Sure that support will emerge!

Hi Phil
Another excelent idea. The most important thing is to start! Everything else comes after. Sponsors, participants, lectures.

In reply to CT1BWW:
On a slightly different topic: There have been informal SOTA Meetings in FrieHa at the QSL wall with typically 10 - 20 SOTA Activists and Chasers gathering every day at noon. What about a SOTA Booth at the FrieHa Hamradio in 2014? There is a section in one of the halls reserved for clubs and a SOTA stand would fit nicely.
No idea about the costs though, but would like to know about other people interests.

Hallo Heinz,
It seems interesting. It is a start. There is already some work done so I think you would enjoy. It is important to know the conditions of supply for stays and travel via Air or land.
Even better is to have an idea of the number of participants.
I know it will take a lot of work, but it is very rewarding and in the end everyone wins.

La/tm-001 Gaustatoppen for sale.
With railroad all the way to the topp, inside the moutain offcourse.
With 5294 square meters inside the moutain, the whole sota convention can be inside if the weather doesnt allow beer &bbq at the summit.
And the price? 1.000.000 Nok, thats about £100.000.
To bad the army will only sell it to other goverment departments…
