Windy weather

Hi Brian

The turnstile has about 3db loss compared with a dipole
broadside on. Of course , off the ends of the dipole it’s
quite a different matter, and the turnstile would win hands
down. I would think that a better solution might be to have
a pair of dipoles, spaced to avoid interaction, and run 2
feeders to an antenna switch so that the direction could be
simply switched through 90 degrees. Any losses incurred in
the switch shouldn’t be any greater than in the plug/socket
arrangement for the phasing harness of the turnstile

Another antenna well worth considering would be a pair of
stacked Halos. Whilst a single halo will have a similar loss
to a turnstile when compared with a horizontal dipole, this
will be compensated for by the stacking gain. You could stack
turnstiles of course, but this would an unwieldy beast for
portable use, and the cabling of the phasing harness much more
complex
