Windy on Lingmoor

I blame the new SIMBA matress for not getting out of bed early enough on Friday to do an activation, so I ended up on a very windy Lingmoor today instead. It was bad enough directly on the summit that I was strugging to keep my footing.

Inspite of this I managed four contacts by hunkering down on the leeward side.

Hi Mark @M0NOM ,

We opted for Lord’s Seat today, G/LD-033, which was our plan-B due to weather. We were hoping to climb Skiddaw, but looking across to it, you can see why we didn’t:

The weather on 033 was windy and very cold this morning, so we hid just below the summit, avoiding most of the wind, but still being well within the AZ and the POTAs.

Lots of forestry work is happening in Whinlatter, but the footpath up the summit is still open, which is fortunate as we didn’t have a plan-C really, other than heading home :grinning:

Anyway, we made a few contacts on 20m, before Nic decided we’d had enough with the cold and called QRT. We walked around Barf later in the day, and passed the Bishop of Barf, which is worth a quick look! Cumbria Guide | The Bishop Of Barf | Cumbria Guide

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the info - and a nice surprise that someone else braved the weather today! When considering summits Lords Seat did pop to mind, but it is a fair old trek from Windermere. Lovely summit, I think I’ve only done it once previously.

The wind chill was probably what actually put me off any attempt at HF - even though the wind speed was brutal - I’d have given it a go a bit off the summit, but just thought I’d get way too cold.

Regards, Mark.
