Chris has a week off, but needed to get back at a reasonable time, so it had to be an easy local one.
Whitfell fitted the bill nicely.
Chris wanted to do 2 mtrs, I’ve done this fell several times this year so wasn’t sure what to take. But as Andrew G4VFL was planning to do a Hump, I plumped on 23cm’s. The new transverter for 9cm’s had just arrived and I had tried with Andy GD1MIP a couple of times but didn’t make it. I thought I would take the kit for another try.
What a cracking day it was for a walk.
This is a wet one, but the new Seal Skins socks I had received for my birthday got an outing, which meant I had lovely warm and dry feet all day.
I setup the 23cm’s with just the 2 ele PCB aerial, Brian G4ZRP came straight back, then G7IEI called in and finally Andrew G4VFL/P on his Hump HLD-025.
Andrew then got his Signal mirror out and I copied him no problem, I got mine out, but due to the sun being in a poor direction and my lack of experience Andrew could not copy me.
I then switched over to the 9cm’s transverter and Andy GD1MIP was calling, so we both had our first 9cm’s QSO’s. Both running about 3 watts and a 7 ele PCB aerial. With this being the fourth contact of the day it was the qualifying one for the summit.
Chris (M0KPW) was busy on 2 mtrs FM and 4 mtrs FM with the Clansman, he had a great day 29 QSO’s with seven of them being on 4 mtrs, the highest count he has had so far on “Four”
As you can see it was a lovely day, the wind really was not as bad as the video makes it sound.
