Practice chasing at home (as I do every day I can - as Allan GW4VPX has done) and you will be able to better cope with the pile up when you activate a summit using Morse. To reduce the size of the pile up initially it is better to use 10 or 14 MHz. The biggest and best pile ups are always on 7032 or thereabouts.
Very few will own both the Mini and the Pico and thus able to give objective feedback on the ‘paddling experience’. I own a Pico but I suspect the Mini is also excellent. Now that you (Richard @G4TGJ) chose the Mini years ago, I’ll take the liberty of using this (zombie from the grave) topic for a ‘show & tell’.
I have four twin paddles and like one’s children I have no favourite, only things each has that pleases me.
The Palm Pico twin paddles are my choice for all CW activations - nothing special to look at but highly functional [very small & lightweight, clean action, good for damp weather]
KXPD2 for my KX2 rig: paddles too big and too separated for my preference but it bolts directly to the rig [reliable].
Begali Magnetic Pro for the shack: like a Ferrari, it combines ultimate performance with beautiful Italian styling [I have it with the more subtle black paddles]
The classic handmade miniature twin-paddles keyer from G4ZPY (sadly, SK for some years now) was my first and only one for many years and is now a collector’s item. And the one with which I learnt to twin-paddle.
