Well, I never (HF bands)

Try 5.357 - that’s NEVER silent

Well yesterday probably wasn’t so bad - look at today:

(from spaceweatherlive.com )

It’s going to be very noisy on 40m I suspect! But … there may be a lot of short skip for those looking for shorter distance contacts.

Ha ha, that made me laugh out loud. Agreed!

Love your list… it’s spot on.

Yup!

Got that right! I’ve gotten F4WBN quite often in the Sierras in W6 land at times I thought were later in the day…

On the five activations so far this year that I took either my 60/40/30/20 or 80/60 inverted v dipoles I chose to operate 60m SSB rather than CW as I’ve done for years previously, and got a lot more contacts [mostly back-to-back]

I use speech compression only lightly so my average power output must be much less than the 10W power setting on the KX2. I was surprised therefore to get such good reports from all over G, GM, GW and EI. It’s a joy to operate on 60m /P with virtually no background noise, with its good NVIS properties and D layer absorption lower than 80m.

(Don’t forget Chris @F4WBN & Lars @SA4BLM too).[/quote]
Ain’t that the truth. My buddy and I were joking the other day because F4WBN worked me on 12m SSB, but not my buddy on 20m CW (same summit at the same time). With false disappointment he quipped, “I guess he doesn’t like me”.

Hi Chris - KI4POT,
Far be it from me to segregate! There is a more rational explanation. Indeed the 20m is often noisy while the upper bands are much less noisy and the DX contacts are easier.
All my best to your friend hoping to find it on 21 or 24 MHz.
Best regards,
Chris - F4WBN

Chris is definitely an equal opportunity operator. I hear him chasing stations on CW and SSB, and get to log him when he calls me, too.
Often there is a grainy quality to signals on 20 that may not be present on 17, 15 or 12 meters. And when 10 opens…
If conditions are good and one is operating early enough Asia and Europe are possible on 40 and 30.
Enjoy!

Sure! If I missed regular chasers call, it makes me worry about him. :grinning:

Yeah, we were just joking around because you’re such a reliable chaser to us here in VA.
