Well done Saskia, M6POE

A big *well done" to 9 year old Saskia M6POE on her first SOTA activation from G/SP-015 The Cloud today. The WX wasn’t brilliant when she arrived with Barbara 2E0YVX and Steve M0VFR, with visibility quite low. However a breeze soon cleared things up and she was able to go QRV.

Saskia managed her mini pile-up beautifully, leaving the summit with 24 2m FM contacts. Her radio procedure was exemplary and a credit to her tutors.

Saskia is no Stranger to SOTA. She visited my Radio club a couple of weeks ago with Barbara and Steve, where I let her loose on the Cushcraft A4S 4 element Tri-Bander, during what can only be described as dreadful HF conditions. This did not stop her from grabbing 40 SOTA chaser points, though.

No doubt, we’ll be hearing a lot more on the bands from Saskia.

Congratulations Saskia on your first SOTA activation.

Good, well done Saskia and thanks Mike for posting the achievement. I cannot remember what I was doing when I was 9

Great operator for 9. In fact disregard the “for 9” bit, she’s a great operator. Better than several old-timers here in the North West, for sure. But that’s old news, I remember Mickey being quite startled at this young lady’s operating procedure and on-air assuredness just after she was licensed.

Well she’s taken to activating like a duck to water, so I hope she really gets the bug now, as so many of us have done. Looking forward to the first S2S with you Saskia, and don’t forget to keep trying to persuade your mates what a great hobby this is.

Yes, I was her first SOTA chase when activating Shinihg Tor at the begining of February and I was amazed at her confidence.

To hear Saskia ask at least half a dozen chasers, may I have your name for my log please? was a real pleasure, Tom.

Fantastic Mike! Wish I’d started when I was 9 (rather than almost 49).

Well done Saskia.

I had my first contact with Saskia (M6POE) today when i was activating RINNERBERG OE/OO-378.

I have to agree with all the other comments here … she is a great operator

Several other hams could learn a lot of operating-skills from this young lady! Hope to work her many times in the future!

Many thanks Martin. Saskia, was operating from my radio club shack, working with an FT-857 and Cushcraft 4 element tri-bander, accompanied by SOTA activators Steve M0VFR his XYL Barbara 2E0YVX and myself. Thanks for taking all of our calls, you were a tremendous signal.

The highlight of Saskia’s day was working VU2RBI.
