Hi Phil

Sorry lost you in the noise when passing over me report.

Win some lose some

Thanks for trying

Karl

Saw you spot when I came back from walking the dog (no euphanism here - actually walking the dog) - by then you’d moved over to CW though.

Will you be getting out again in the next few days, now that it seems you have delivered the better weather?

Ed.

Hi Karl

QSO was good! Thank you for the 33 report on 20m SSB. I am just about to put my log in now.

Hi Ed

I cannot make any plans for the next week due to the party deciding what we do day by day on the holiday. I really appreciated your weather forecast for the summit you did to the north of Garmisch and on that we decided to take the cable car up to Wank. A good decision. I hope you are right about the weather, however it is now starting to rain in Garmisch.

I was on the air on 3 bands for a short time from Wank and CQ calls were made on all 3 bands before my XYL and her 85 year old mum returned from their walk around Wank to my position near the cross.

So I made 14 QSOs today from Wank in 20 mins, 9 on CW on 20/30/40m and 5 on 20m SSB. Best DX was 9H3DS on 20m CW (AKA David G0EVV who was 599).

FT-817 5 watts and link dipole used.

All understood Phil. When there are others in the party, you can’t just dissapear off up a mountain and leave them - well you could, but who knows what you would have to face when you came back HI!

Saw a forecast 3 Hr. break in the rain today (which turned out to be the whole afternoon) so shot out and activated Schneidberg (DL/AM-156) for the lightweight SOTA QRP activity weekend, from 10:45 to 11:30 UTC, so too early for an S2S with you. I could have stayed longer but was worrying about the rain coming in, with a 30 minute+ walk back to the car.

Revised forecast for tomorrow is before lunch, lovely sunny day and after lunch 40% chance of light showers.

Thanks for the points Phil. I could barely hear you on 14MHz ssb but good readable cpi on CW, then QSB kicked in and no more contact, or perhaps you went QRT.100W to elevated gp… Feed at 40ft agl.

Regards
David

Should be a discourse badge for the most controversial post !

Had me in stitches whilst on G/LD-010  I refuse to grow up.

You just need to pronounce it the German way, closer to “vunk” than the w word. Otherwise it does make for an interesting exchange on air.

One of my colleagues who looked after the Wang systems announced his role as “Wang King” which created a ripple of laughter in the meeting.

(There really was a Wang computer brand - originally specialising in word processing systems way before PCs)

That word isn’t even globally known as anything impolite in the English speaking world. I heard a derivative of it in an episode of The Simpsons once, that went out at 6pm on BBC2. I mentioned it to an American work colleague at the time, who explained that it was just slang for a “foolish or lazy person” in parts of the US.

Yes, I was careful when talking locally to pronounce Wank the German way. Today I am heading over the Austrian border to activate TI-690 Gschwandtkopf - now that is much harder to pronounce for an Englishman… Same set up and freq hopping today 10119>7032>14285-14063 ± QRM. I am not fond of 40m SSB with low power, too much of a struggle for my liking to establish a working frequency with the time available. I will make 30 mins or so activity from the summit or until callers who can hear me peter out…

Listened but nothing heard when you came up on 20m SSB Phil - just too close and no local E’s at the moment and for ground wave there’s a couple of “small” hills in the way. 20m not in good condition at the moment - even Mike G6TUH is quieter than usual.

Shame, I’d have liked OE/TI-690 for a complete.

Thats better can hear him this time 5/5 5/6 Cheers phil

Do you think it could be twinned with LDW-159 Phil?

They’d make a good pair.

Nice one Dai-vid ! SOTA twinning would not work in this case as Great C only counts for WOTA…

I think we ought to call time on this thread now - if I get to activate another summit in the area and it’s worth discourse I will start a new thread!
