W4T Campout

Several W4 Sota folks are planning to meet at Round Mountain Campground, near the summit of Round Mountain, W4T/SU-029, around the weekend of October 10 and 11 for some SOTA activations and good times together. At least a couple of us have committed to coming a day or two early and possibly staying a day or two into the next week.

Round Mountain Campground is a forest service primitive campground with fourteen sites and no facilities other than a pit toilet. Sites cannot be reserved and are on a first come, first serve basis and are best suited for tents. The campground is located on County Road 107 south of Del Rio, Tennessee. It is one of the highest campgrounds in altitude in the Cherokee National Forest at 3100 feet, so nights can be quite cool. The usual camping fee is $7.00 but can be less if you qualify for discounts.

Everyone is welcome to come and we hope that if enough show up we might even try to throw together a group meal on Saturday. If you are not familiar with the area, it is rich in SOTA summits, too many to mention here. Use SotaMap, do a range search centered on Round Mountain, and you will see what I mean.

If you think you might be interested in joining us or need more information, please post your response here.

Good SOTA,
