I plan to activate Mt Taylor VK1/AC-037 at 07:45 UTC for EU chasers.
Mt Taylor has a QSO count of 884, I’m looking to give the QSO count a serious nudge toward 1000 QSOs. VK has two SOTA summits with a QSO count over 1000, Mt Gawler VK5/SE-013 in South Australia (1311 QSOs) and Mt Ainslie VK1/AC-040 here in Canberra (1134 QSOs).
I’m not expecting to make the 1000 mark today, may be back next week. Would be fun for a DX chaser to be the 1000th QSO.
Hi Petronel, Andrew is activating Mt Taylor right now (so on 09 Dec 2014) - 20m doesn’t seem to be open all that well at the moment, but I expect it will open up shortly. He will remain on the summit until about 0910Z today.
Hi Andrew,
I was activating S5/RG-016 today. Saw your spots on 14.305 and 14.310 for s2s but did not hear you. Propagation was not good today, hope for better condx next time.
73, Mirko
Local VK band conditions on 40 and 20m were lousy.
After calling you on 14.305 I did hear voices, may have been EU chasers.
Activation summary: 24 contacts in 90 minutes, very slow. Two EU chasers made it through the noise, Jorge EA2LU and Don G0RQL. Local S2S contacts were Andrew VK1DA on Mt Stromlo 8 km north-west and Bob VK5FO on Mt Gawler 800 km west in South Australia.
Wx for the remainder of the week is storms and rain. I will try again next week, Mt Taylor QSO count is now 908.
