VK1 - EU S2S

Anyone interested in a long path VK - EU S2S this coming Sunday 30 November on 20m or 17m SSB/FT8?

I have posted an alert for 0600 UTC, I will operate from Mt Stromlo VK1/AC-043 for 3 hours. Sunset is at 0900 UTC.

Any takers?

Hi @VK1AD,

Would love to give this a bash and planning to be out. Will bring a vertical!

I’ll put an alert out later today.

Thanks for suggesting, Andrew. I would love to have another chat summit to summit. But with the temperature forecast of just above freezing and approaching rain, I’d rather stay in the shack
Good luck and many S2S for your activation.

Hi Andrew @VK1AD,

It’s been a while since we’ve had a S2S, think I was in GI the last time??

I have alerted GW/NW-031 at 07:00 UTC tomorrow (Sunday morning), I might get there slightly earlier - it would be great if we made contact.

Thanks Ian,

Agree, tough 20m LP conditions, however I am happy to report a small number of EU chaser stations heard me and 17m was open to Japan and New Zealand SOTA chasers.

Equipment: FT-857D at 20 watts feeding a linked inverted V dipole with the appex at 7 metres above ground. My 20m vertical wouldn’t have survived the wind gusts.

20m Dx: Zain ZL1CN, Matt ZL4NVW, Warren ZL2AJ, Chris F4WBN, Larry F5PYI, Jan OK2PDT, Hideo JH1MXV, and Steve ZL1TZP.

18m Dx: Wynne ZL2ATH, Hiro JG0AWE, Phil ZL1PSH and John ZL3MR.

With the impending threat of more rain and strong gusty winds I had to pull the pin at 07:50 UTC plus the feels like temp had fallen to 7 degrees C  , that’s cold for a VK spring day.

Until next time
