Subject to WX, Barry M0IML, Dave G4ASA and myself 2E0YYY will be QRV on the 20m band at around 0630 utc on Saturday morning. Looking for some DX, especially VK/ZL/W.
CW as well as SSB modes will be available to the chasers. We’ll alert which summits shortly…
If possible, a few more EU activators, would be appreciated?
On our side, next saturday we are planning to activate some EA2/NV summits, more than 2 hours away from our QTH, (ETA ± 09:30 UT as earliest)
I think it would be no carrots for us this time sadly
If any change, we’ll shout it here.
Good luck on your chase, Mike & Co!
I plan on activating Mt.Randall again on Saturday should be on 20 metre’s around 06:30 UTC , hopefully conditions will be better than the have been lately. I’m hearing short path signals from Europe around 14:30 UTC onwards. But haven’t heard any Sota stations, just the big guns.
Will be be listening out for you on 20m. I’ll be doing a joint activation with Dave G4ASA om what will be a unique for you. Also Barry M0IML, will be about and possibly a GW station with another unique.
Frankly, I haven’t been up at such an unGodly hour for pleasure since I quit Scottish winter climbing, but if I can heave myself out of my pit I’ll come on and see if I can hear any SotaDX (SDX?) as hopefully the local electronic smog will be less at that time.
Carrots…
Ok… I’ll try to wake up earlier on sunday and travel to EA1/BU to be at summit about 7-7:30 UT.
I can’t promise, as a lot of rain is expected here
Hi Barry,
Sorry to hear about the poor WX, however good to get you on the 40m band from your home QTH, you were a big big signal.
The 20m band was in pretty good shape this morning up on G/TW-005 Normanby Top. Both Dave G4ASA and myself were QRV at about 0625z.There was plenty of EU takers and 0645 Andrew VK1DA/2 called in for not only our first VK contact of the morning but an s2s with VK2/ST-044, a unique for both Dave and myself. Cheers Andrew.
Tony VK3CAT called in after his activation earlier in the morning. Nice to hear PaulVK5PAS/P who was doing a WFFactivation and Adam VK2YK who followed him straight in.
Ron VK3AFW was soon in the log along with Gerard VK2IO, who had not long stepped of a plane after his visit to EU. Nice of you to take the trouble to fly back to VK, just to work Dave and myself on G/TW-005, Gerard
Once again, Greg VK8GM called in from Alice Springs to Give Dave a new State. Thanks for the call, Greg.
We found John VK6NU up on VK6/SW-039 Mount Randall giving us our second VK s2s of the morning with an armchair copy. The EU stations were loud, with the EA stations giving us big signals. Ernie VK3DET was the next VK contact with a fine signal as was MIke VK6MB and Peter VK3ZPF. That was the end of the VK chasers for me with 11 contatcs logged. Dave followed up with some 20m CW and a logged a further 2 VK’s to give him a fine total of 13.
The 40m band was in great shape with rock crushing signals coming in from EU and the best Inter G signals I’ve heard for ages.
Big thanks to the EU and VK chasers for some great radio this morning
Great to work you today, Not sure what was wrong with your audio But Dave had beautiful audio, I heard you chuckling in the background when I said how good his audio was.
I had a great day, difficult summit to get to and I skipped 24Mhz and went straight to 20. managed to work 12 countries long path into Europe so 13 countries worked if you include VK.
Ended up with 42 qso’s on 20, 13 on 40 and 2 on 2 metre FM. Grand total of 57 in the log.
Only 1 or 2 S2S depending on how you look at it and that was you guys.
What a difference location makes… I listened hard for both those VK activators, but against a non-negligible local noise floor. I could just about hear VK1DA/2, but only heard folk working VK6NU. Not sure how much the rain lashing against the windows here helped, mind…
The recent addition of a shed load of solar panels.within the radar station compound at Normanby Top, means you’ve got to activate about half a Kilometre clear of the radio tower, or the 20m band is almost unworkable. The summit is as flat as a pancake, so not the greatest take-off in the world. Having said this, it has produced some great dx for Dave and myself.
The 20m band wasn’t open to VK until about 0745 local time. After 0800 local time, the signals were much stronger.
As you pointed out, location makes a big difference.
Good to get you in our log books. Thanks for staying so late. I’m glad you were finally rewarded with an s2s. Yeah, we did have a laugh over the audio reports, it must be Daves Yorkshire Accent
