Just a quick heads up as Helen (M0YHB) and I (Carolyn G6WRW) are on our travels again.
We will be travelling along the Californian coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco from the 30th April to 2nd May returning to LA from SF on the 5th May to fly on to Albuquerque, we have already identified a few potential hills to activate for SOTA on the way. We are then hopping over to the New Mexico area between 7th and 18th May.
Alerts will be posted for once we have finalised where we will be on any particular day however we have set aside some dates for summits;
Tuesday 30th April
Wednesday 1st May
Tuesday 7th May
Wednesday 8th May
We have some flexibility so other days will be added because we are off on another road trip around New Mexico and Colorado.
We will be using 20/17/15 and 10m depending on time of day/propagation and will try to time some of the activations to maximise possible EU contacts.

I see you are coming to Albuquerque. If you need any advise or GPS map data on the peaks her let me know. Most likely we have activated them at some point. I am a member of the 58 Radio Group and we monitor 146.58 FM simplex. Look up the Mega Link on Google and you can get the Mega Link band plan which covers all of New Mexico. I would be glad to Gide you if it is on a weekend. We could find you a guide on weekdays. Standard fee is one Green Chili Cheese burger. A guide is not really necessary, just good orienteering skills. Would be glad to loan you my topo maps.If you give me a heads up, I can send you .TFF maps of any location in the south west, along with Garmin data.

We’ll be on Arran doing some summits, including on 7th and 8th, so will
listen out for you. Our dipole only has 10/20/40/60/80. Martyn M1MAJ has got a
new vertical but we haven’t really sussed tuning it yet (and it hasn’t yet
been up a hill), but that would give us 15/17 as well.

Feel free to contact me if you are near Denver (or even better N of Denver / Rocky Mountain N.P. etc.). Happy to help or go on a joint activation.
I’m not expecting contacts into UK/EU from the West coast summits (W6), I will call Europe though. “IF” propagation is good possibly 20 or 17m might work, watch for spots. During our last trip we managed to work back to EU from summits in W5 (including a s2s) and W7 so the New Mexico summits are a better possibilty if we are on at the right time of day.
One summit I would really like to do is South Sandia Peak (W5N/SI-003) as the weather was far too poor last time we were there. An “easy” (could be long-ish)route would be nice, if there is one, we live at sea level and I did feel the altitude last time I was there. Garmin route tracks would be good if you have them as we have a Oregon.
Navigating would not be too much of an issue but I always enjoy joint activations. As a guide fee, would a burger in the Frontier Restaurant be ok?

If you should have the time please venture up to just north of Colorado Springs to visit Peanut & Rooster for a short goat hike to activate Mt Herman!
