Yesterday, during activation of Mt.Lekanda (EA2/BI-003) in the Basque Country, appeared a helicopter and was watching us for a long time. Perhaps a SOTA verifier? (hi hi, is a joke!)
Iratxe, EA2DNO, was very scared and did not listen to the QSOs because of the noise.
Surly somebody has taken some “drone” footage already ? It would look spectacular. Thinking of doing something like this one day. A summit panorama shot would be epic with one of them things.
Dear Alberto and Iratxe,
Nice anecdote and absolutely beautiful views.
I felt very happy after chasing you, Iratxe, yesterday on 2m FM from my car. I heard you saying you were just about to start the activation and I stopped my car at the side of the road because I was high just about to leave the small village where I live and I knew I would loose your copy if I continued my trip. We completed our QSO and I continued my trip right away, as I was in a rush - as usual. As soon as I left my park spot and descent a few meter, I lost your copy, so it was very good that I heard you and stopped my car just in time.
I’m also very glad that you posted on the Reflector with these great pictures after one of your several activations and seen the quality of the photos and the beauty of the landscapes you’ve shared with us, I highly encourage you to do it much more often.
Thank you for so many SOTAs, Merry Christmas and I’ll be looking forward to many more SOTA chases and S2S QSO in the 2015.

If you click the photos and then click again you get a full resolution image. The antenna is an HB9CV so the gain is about 4dBd the front to back ratio is about 20dB. This looks to be a nice one that collapses with the elements held onto the boom via PL259/SO239 connectors.
Hello everyone.
Nick: The antenna is a HB9CV. Not too good but is very light and easy to assemble. It is always better than a vertical antenna.

Damn it, You guys were not supposed to know that we ever did such checks. We will have to stop using helicopters and move on to high level drones.
