The power of QRP

Saturday afternoon i make the Bear Mountain VE2/ES-022.
I forgot my lithium batterie, so i had to use the internal batteries of my FT-817 for Sota at .5 watt.
Thanks at EA2IF & EA2LU about 5483 km distance QSO.
G4OBK was not far behind with 5028 km.
It’s always impressive to see the distance that you can travel with so little power.

Jean, I been promoting the use of extremely low power for a quite a while now. It’s quite a buzz covering huge distances with only a few hundred milliwatts isn’t it?

I made a video for Ham Nation to try to show just what is possible with a tiny amount of power. I guess it might be fun to do another video, this time whilst using 20m instead of 30m. It would be great to show some DX contacts.

My video here -

So Jean, how about reducing the power further?

Dear Jean,
Thank you for activating Bear Mountain.
Your QRP signal arrived pretty good here yesterday. You don’t really need bigger power when propagation conditions are in good shape.
It was my pleasure chasing you yesterday evening and I’m ready for more whenever you want,

worked N7UN and KK1W with only 3 watts out of a HB-1B. Remember we don’t only use qrp power but also that we don’t have those incredible antenna’s we can take to the summits. Some people seem to forget that. Some even post negative things on sotawatch because they are in a qrp depression… …

Your activation is only for kilowatts? (Posted by SP9AMH)

I am busy building a Rockmite for 30 and will build another for 20. I’m curious to see what that will do

have a great day all,
