The Brack GM/SS-040

Andy what a day out you had on the Brack, glad to hear you hadn’t completely lost it (your bag of things) !

On that day we were serenely on our way to Ailsa Craig, flat calm seas, on the PS Waverley when I’m sure we heard some “Military grade swearing” bellowing down from the hills in the gentle breeze as we passed by Holy Isle; even all the nuns popped out of their hobbit houses all aghast ! Then after paddling round Ailsa Craig and approaching Holy Isle on our return we then heard an almighty scream in the air, then silence; must have been you finding your bag of things.

The Brack is a killer on the knees, especially if starting from Ardgartan Forest car park. Pre-SOTA me and the XYL used to always do The Brack from there. Once off the track it is certainly a pretty relentlessly steep ascent.
An alternative route up The Brack is to start from from Coillessan Glen car park, as I did in the last activation of The Brack back in Nov-2025. Activation : GM/SS-040 : The Brack : 04-Nov-2025

On this occasion I did manage to remember all the radio gear however I did manage to snap my SOTAbeams mast; despite that 4 QSOs were bagged and then packed up and headed back down the same way we came. A slightly longer route but now my favoured route up The Brack back down to Coillessan Glen car park.
