The 10 m S2S EU <> VK challenge (Part 1)

10m virtually dead this morning. Nothing at all on CW, SSB, FM, FT8. One weak station on FT4 - FR2OM. No joy in calling him though.

Just one contact on 2m FM and one on 10m SSB - with the same station - who I managed to persuade to QSY from VHF!!

This evening from Mt Stromlo VK1/AC-043.

34 QSOs on 20m.

24 20m SSB QSOs into Europe. There were no EU S2S takers, I don’t recall seeing a 20m spot.

10m was open to JA.

I thought the tingling feeling was just the thrill of an activation?

@GW4BML and myself are planning an early summit on easter Friday, 7.30am ish UTC (Friday 29th).

We plan to bring 14m and 10m verticals for DX to VK/ZL/JP/Asia, if anyone would like to try chasing us ?

Would be great to know know if anyone is around to try. Its a big hill with an already early start so apologies probably not much chance of it being earlier (but we will try)

Cheers

Ulaanbaatar Standard Time?

I will go to VK1/AC-041. Sunset is 0800 UTC which gives you a 15 minute window for a S2S on 20m SSB.

No Richard, It is obviously Uzbekistan Standard Time. They are after Asian DX, remember?

Thanks @VK1AD. There is an incentive to get our backsides in gear… Will try our best!

Hello,

I would also like to try again on Saturday 6:30 utc.
But I would prefer 10m, because of my antenna. Are you planning also to be on 10m?

Hej Peter,

both Andrew and I put on alerts for 10 m.
Last Saturday I missed you. I heard you only once and very weak in the noise. Still wondering why, 126 km s2s on 10 m shouldn’t be a big issue.

I used a moxon. Probably it was not directed in your direction. I set an alert for Saturday. Hopefully conditions will be better . Peter

Sun is setting on VK1/AC-041

Sorry Tim, I couldn’t wait any longer after sunset. Descending in the dark with a new prosthetic knee on a rocky trail in a dark pine forest is not something I want to attempt.

As it was I got back to my car as last light fell.

Will have to try another day.

Good news, 10m opened to Europe LP at 0645 UTC and abruptly closed at 0655 UTC. 10m EU chasers included: IZ1RTF, IU2LXI, OK1ES and OK1VEI.

Elsewhere 10m was open to JA, ZL, VK1, VK4 and VK6.

20m LP was a blast, 36 QSOs into Europe . 20m LP was open from 0613 UTC to 0800 UTC, however I noted a fade in signal reports starting at ~0745 UTC, 15 minutes before VK1 sunset at 0800 UTC. :city_sunset:

63 QSOs in total.

Thanks all chasers.
