Summit Checking

As time and resources permit, members of the MT are engaged in a program of checking the summits listed in the older Associations using computer tools that were not available at the time that these Associations were established. The intention is to use these improved tools to ensure that the listed summits conform to the required minimum prominence value and are correctly positioned. At the same time any previously unlisted but valid summits will be found and can be added to the summits lists.

The need for this re-analysis can be judged by the fact that summits have already been found with listed co-ordinates that place them outside the borders of their country, and even in rivers and lakes!

Once the checks are completed for an Association, the results will be passed to the AM who in due course will process them (for instance the computer tools will not provide names for new summits) and create an updated list.
