I took an opportunity today to make good use of the winter bonus again. With the clock reset, and potentially poor visibility, Stony Cove Pike was a good option. Up from Kirkstone Pass, once you have summitted Raven Crag it is an easy navigation - keep the wall on your left-hand side until you reach the top. No views to be had today, wind was around 5 knots at the top with estimated temperature of -2 degC.
I didn’t think I’d unpacked my rucksack, but when checking the content at the top of Kirkstone I found that my EFHW was missing (extracted to be dried) so the FT-817 and battery was ditched, keeping the tactical mast and Spectrum Comms Slim-J for a 2m only activation using the FT1XD.
My Lora tracker was charged beforehand and, with continuing improvement coverage of 70cm APRS via Lora I was able to be tracked from Raven Crag to the summit.
I caught Roy @M0TKF on the summit of Helvellyn G/LD-003, working a nice pile up and apparently surrounded by Muggles. Myself, I saw three folk and followed a solitary set of footprints all the way up.
Great to get Andy @MM7MOX and Chris @MM0UHR S2S on GM/SS-133, Tim @G5OLD was on the ascent to The Old Man of Coniston and has been making the most of SOTA in the LD over the past few days.
