Hi Friends,

Today morning I activated SP/BS-022.
Second was scheduled SP/BS-035 but unfortunately on the route I found warning about bears - I really did not want to disturb them and made U-turn to my car.
I moved to nearby SP/BP are and activated there SP/BP-008 & SP/BP-006

85 contacts logged, 14 of them S2S
Many thanks to activators & chasers.

Route in total 6,5 km, altitude total 450 m up & down

Before next trip to SP/BS area I will let you know here.

Hi Leszek, @SQ9MDF

I’m happy each time can work you but generally poor signal on SSB :smirk: Can you try some time CW ? you will make many happy chasers

THERE ARE TWO solutions: a light key or a heavy amplifier

I prefer a light keyer

Looking at Leszek’s activation logs, it is hard to agree with the statement “generally weak signal on SSB”. Maybe it’s a matter of a weak home antenna? :wink:

Hi Jacek @SQ9MDN

I completely agree with you, weak signals in SSB do not necessarily come from Leszek @SQ9MDF , and I am happy when I contact him.
Several criteria must be taken into account! 80m SSB during the day is easier when the QSO’s are done in the same country, even 40m is far for me. I prefer 20m to work him.
I only use wire antennas and 100W :joy: but I’m more likely to hear Jarek @SP9MA on CW .
Something else when we spot a SOTA activity at the same time as a WWFF activity, I have a good chance of not being able to do the QSO!
Ask Mariusz @SP9AMH he will tell you that it is quickly a ZOO

Mariusz SP9AMH (very experienced ham radio operator & using Yaesu FT-817 in QTH) almost always chased me, wherever I was. Leszek SQ9MDF (man of steel) almost always gets chased wherever he activates.
This SOTA game of ours is about fun and friendship, not just competition and points. When someone goes a long way (respect) to activate peaks that are little activated, it was expected as part of the friendship that someone would also work SSB, not just when they could get the benefits of S2S or SOTA Complete. This rubs up against sick rivalry and selfishness. It is about applying the principles of fair play. Let achievements in SOTA be the achievements of each and every one of us and not come from calculating and selfishness. Just so I am understood, this is not a grudge, but a call for more friendship and fair play. Peace&Love

Yes, Beskid Niski Mountains is famous for wolves and bears. To reduce the probability of meeting a bear, I use a bell, received as a gift from good friend Kondrad SQ6GIT (tnx Konrad), which I attach to my backpack and which tells the bear “man is coming”.

Here in Western Canada bears can also be found in the woods. I have my doubts that a small bell will provide adequate warning, and upon seeing bear-signs my SOTA companions and I give a rousing chorus of “Teddy Bear’s Picnic”. Teddy Bears Picnic ~ sung by Anne Murray - YouTube
I regret that we do not have the melodic tones of Anne Murray, but we certainly scare many creatures close-by in the woods. And if that song does not work, several English rugby songs will do the trick.
Don’t be shy, let the bears know you are coming!

Ian, yes, I am aware of that, but it is only one way of informing the bears. I also use singing and other loud behaviour (within reason).
