Attempted SOTA Activation I/TO-208 – Poggio di Moscona: Summit Not Accessible (June 2026)
Sometimes this happens in SOTA too.
Yesterday I planned an activation of I/TO-208 – Poggio di Moscona, a 1-point summit that looked straightforward: summit elevation around 316 m, starting point at 74 m, and about 3.4 km one way with limited elevation gain. On paper it seemed like one of those quick and enjoyable activations.
As I often do before leaving, I prepared the route, checked the track, reviewed the elevation profile and identified the expected access point.
However, once on site the situation was different from what I expected.
After starting the approach, I reached a closed gate with indications suggesting private property / restricted access. I checked for reasonable alternatives or any obvious legal way through, but I could not find one.
At that point I decided to stop the attempt.
It may seem disappointing to turn back because of a gate after planning the day and travelling there, but I think it is important to remember something: a valid SOTA summit does not automatically mean an accessible summit. Respect for private property and local access restrictions comes before the activation.
For this reason I wanted to share this report: if anyone is planning I/TO-208 – Poggio di Moscona, I recommend carefully checking current access conditions before leaving, and looking for any legitimate alternative route or more up-to-date local information.
