More soon…!

Oh that’s even worse Brian. I went looking to see what I had forgotten about Physical Graffiti and found something much more entertaining.

We have Greta van Fleet.

Now people say they sound like Zeppelin. People say Airbourne sound like AC/DC. And I say in what way is that a bad thing?

Then if you are going to be a Zeppelin cover band then do it with style

Oh this ticks many boxes and I can guess that their audience is going to consist entirely of men old enough to be their grandfathers like me. But we have pretty young women with nice figures showing that you don’t need to be naked on stage to look stunning and, yes, and plenty of musical talent doing a fine version of this classic. Drumming rather good here. And a Danelectro 3021 I had to watch it repeat many times in case I missed something!

Thanks Andy, after a heavy day in the garden and a stir fry I was just looking for something to wind down to! I find Greta Van Fleet rather screechy but loved the visuals in the first track. I thoroughly enjoyed Zepparella, though, they certainly know their way around their instruments - and I think of the voice as an instrument. Now I think I’ll listen to Vaughan Williams Tallis Fantasia to reset my ears for tonights exploration!

And with this, the reports of my SOTA activations #3111, #3112, #3113 and #3114, the website is completely up-to-date. For now.

You should write a script that creates an automatic entry for The Cloud, a log of 6 or so 2m chases and a picture of some bloke looking like David Bellamy. It can add one of those automatically every day and then all you need to do is tweak the log and change the photo every few months as the beard gets greyer. It would save you a lot of work.

Ha. I suspect you’re seriously underestimating the complexity of the coding required or maybe talking nonsense. I have three images taken in the last ten minutes that I will cite as evidence:

I’m updating the website again - http://tomread.co.uk

Most of the first batch of updates are activation reports and photos from my local three and oft-repeated summits (including my 50th birthday celebrations), but there are some trips into the North Pennines and Midlands recorded!

The next updates will cover my August GW & G trip in which I did 53 activations in 8 days!

My last activation report for some considerable time. But at least the thread is back on-topic!

Saturday 3rd July 2021 - The Cloud G/SP-015

Gig: Viva Band
Venue: Saga Spirit of Adventure

Today’s schedule included getting a “Fit to Fly” PCR test (to go on a boat), dispatching a batch of QSL cards to the Buro (thus finally clearing the shack for @M0HGY ’s exclusive use in my absence), a bit of shopping, legal paperwork, getting to a football match (pre-season friendly - Macclesfield FC v Ashton United) and calling in on my mum. Oh, and another football match on the telly later.

Shoe-horned into that lot, a “farewell” activation of the World’s most activated SOTA summit. Chucking it down with rain, so an underwhelming activation with 2m handheld and rubber duck. 3 QSOs.

Over and out.

…and now the website is back up-to-date again, which it now will be until at least mid-November.

No activation photos, but a couple from the football match I went to afterwards - including a selfie with a famous retired footballer!

Well, would you believe it, someone has!

Obviously I’m now on the ship - currently in Portsmouth - aprs.fi – live APRS map

My makeshift cabin workstation!

So today’s plan is:

  • Transcribe the bass part for Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”.
  • A walk around the ship (will be broadcast on Facebook Live).
  • Lunch
  • Band rehearsals

…and…

  • Chase up electrician to sign off my rig. I’ve got the written permission of the Captain / Master so eager to get operating. Hopefully M1EYP/MM will soon appear in some activator logs. Unusually, I am now predominantly a chaser!

And finally, I have everything in place - the written permission of the Captain / Master and the clearance to operate after a gear inspection by the Chief Electrical Officer.

Just one contact made so far - into OK on 40m CW - I’m QRV on 7.016 if anyone is interested. Hopefully I’ll make some SOTA chases tomorrow!

How did you get on with it, Tom? I hope the remastered version that I’ve seen mentioned was more helpful, the original is not very clear, but it sounds to me like its nearly all a rhythm on a pedal note, not very inspiring considering how atmospheric Kashmir otherwise is.

Hi Tom, well done in getting that permission. Good effort. :grinning:

I posted the link for you Brian, three posts above this one.

Ah yes, found it. Good work, that recording sounded a bit fuzzy in the lower register to my ears - but it was a long time ago, technology-wise!
