SOTA on Telly?

I understand that all the talks/presentations at the Sheffield microwave convention this weekend (Saturday 12th July 2008) will be streamed live on http://www.batc.tv

One of these talks is Richard G3CWI presenting on lightweight backpacking with 10GHz gear. Richard has done a significant number of SOTA activations on 10GHz recently.

Richard’s talk is scheduled to start at 2.15pm BST (1315z).

For those in the Sheffield area, I am doing a talk about SOTA at the Sheffield club on Monday evening.

Unfortunately the lag on the site makes watching anything seriously painful and there appears to be no-way of saving anything to watch it back when it is all downloaded and you cannot use the “pause the video trick” aka YouTube.

The transmit side of my G3WDG transverter is now tuned up. Worked first time and produces some 70mW! I hope to be QRV on 3cm for SOTA summits before too long.

From what I can see and my take on this is that the session is LIVE, ie streaming, there fore you are not downloading a complete file just receiving and buffering a small amount of data, thus you cannot pause this without specialist software implemented on the presentation site. Lag ? what lag, playing flawlessly here !!! Must be my 20meg pipe thats helping… lol !

Watching here without difficulty. Talk still in progress at 3.15pm.

Same here, a very interesting and informative talk.

An excellent presentation. Jimmy and I were glued to the monitor here in the shack. Of course, I’ve seen Richard’s 10G set up before, but I bet the weight, portability and speed of setting up was a real eye-opener for many of his audience.

Enjoyed it - thanks Richard.

I missed it! Dad’s taxi service was pressed into action. No worries I’ll watch it on my marvellous 3G phone as I get zigabytes of broadband connectivity in my contract and the signal is end-stop around here.

Except it wouldn’t play as it had the wrong version of Flash. Oh noes! Hopefully the BATC will add the saved stream to their website one day.

Having seen Richard’s SOTA videos, I was expecting his Microwave talk to be
excellent, and it was fully up to expectations. Many thanks Richard.
