In reply to F5NEP:

The last I heard, Lionel, was that the Italians included some rules which were unacceptable to the MT because they were too divergent from the rules accepted by the rest of SOTA. I do not know if there is any prospect of movement on this matter.

I agree, Lionel, we really need Italy to be part of the International SOTA movement. Soon, I hope all Europe will have SOTA Associations!

Andrea IW0HK was in Geneva area last autumn. Unfortunately I did not have chance to meet him in person. He did activate some summits here too. I hope the pride of Marconis heirs will allow them to join the international SOTA program. I guess there can be similar problems like recently in DM.

Hello Jaako
thank you for that clarification, I asked the question because one of our friends S5 activated today Italian summit, I think it was for fun, as F8BBL during his visit in Corsica, before the official opening.
forward to hear you soon

Hi Brian,

Few months ago, I read Italian SOTA rules and don’t find they were so far from ours…
The main difference is that in Italian rules, one must walk 45 minutes when leaving the car… not realy a silly rule, is’nt it.

If we have a look at http://www.radioavventura.it/SOTA_Home.htm
we can found It. SOTA rules under “Regolamento Internazionale”.
It seems that there is a difference on qualifying a summit…prominence…again… hi !

Well, my opinion is that we should have to work with Italy !
…and with every European country

Hi, Alain, sorry to be so slow in replying. I fully agree with you, we need Italy in SOTA!

As I remember it, one major problem was the Italian winter bonus system which could not be reconciled with the SOTA software so that the bonus could not be calculated automatically. Really, though, there were no problems that could not be sorted out with good will, but unfortunately we have heard very little from the Italians, and it seems that they do not have any urgent desire to harmonise their version of SOTA with the rest of the world. I sincerely hope that this is something that will eventually change, and you can be certain that every possible effort will be taken to help Italy become part of the international SOTA scheme.
