SOTA in Trail Magazine

I see Derek 2E0MIX is providing more good publicity for SOTA with a photo by Henry Iddon in this month’s Trail. Derek was photographed on Great Gable.

Well done Derek!

Hi Karen,
I have a copy of that photograph that Henry Iddon sent me and all I can say is what a good picture of my dog Mitch.

In reply to 2E0MIX:

lol Derek. I have to say I agree he’s very handsome Derek! Funnily enough the first thing I said as Neil was walking towards me holding out the picture was “I recognise that dog!”

Perhaps Mitch and I will get to meet sometime on the fells.

Is SOTA Dog Bagging a new Activity then Karen?

Good publicity indeed, as well as perhaps gaining the hobby a few new members maybe it will stop some of the weird questions

In reply to G8TMV:

Weird questions are good Colin. If we are to do our bit to promote the hobby and raise its profile, then you want inquisitive people approaching you on summits!

Even on a 9pm activation last night, I found myself explaining the hobby and my approach to it to no less than four sets of people. It is always worth sepnding time to do this to the hundreds that do approach and ask questions each year, and who knows, one of them might just enquire further and take up the hobby.

Agree with you on all points Tom, its a very practical way of raising public awareness in a good way. I fielded some probing questions about the ionosphere yesterday, so it keeps me on my toes too!

There were several dogs up there too, but they showed more interest in my sandwiches than the radio… :o)

I decided to get my licence after chatting to an activator who was carrying a fishing pole up Moel Fammau. I guess we never know who we influence

Just bought a copy of Trail magazine and found it quite interesting with some good informative articles.

I am sure Tom,(M1EYP) could put something together that Trail would love to publish and really put our hobby on the hill walkers map.

In reply to 2E0MIX:

I couldn’t agree more Derek - could perhaps be combined with WOTA - people completing all Wainwrights (with superb mountain photos and discreet antenna set ups of course)

Features about SOTA in Trail magazine have already appeared in (I think) September 2008 and June 2009, prepared by Richard G4ERP.
