SOTA HF Activators doing something different

I been hearing more and more SOTA HF Activators now doing things a little bit different.
Calling for QRP and Mobiles ONLY, States Operators Asking for DX ONLY.
And DX stations asking for North America ONLY
I just want to say Thanks guys, This is Great It really cuts down on the
QRM ands makes contact much faster and I know it also makes it easy
for you guys on the summits working the pileups we all have heard …
Wish they all would operate lite that.
I know for the JOE out there who just want to make a contact and dont care or log SOTA points this dont mean nothing to him but to us full time Chasers it makes it better for us all.

I agree whole heartedly it makes it much easier if the chaser can see that the activator is working to a system. Many of the VK activators will call for S2S, QRP, mobile and portable stations then go by call area numbers to ease the qrm from the dogpile. works well for both the activator and the chaser.

I tend not to have such a problem with my QRP anyway. However, when employing such a “system”, it is important to do so in a way that gives those waiting the impression that they won’t be waiting too long. Impatient radio amateurs can quickly morph into unwanted “helpers”, disrupters and even deliberate QRMers. Hence the occasional call for something specific might be useful, but working by numbers (for instance) can often make things worse.

You might find that JOE thats in there to just make a contact and dont care about SOTA , Dont count or log the points for the contact may get impatient. But for us Dedicated FULL time Chasers that is in the program for the points and Log our contacts We dont get impatient ( at less I dont) and I know plenty others here in the States fell the same as I do. A good activator controls his freq when the pileups get so bad no one can hear the activator over the other people calling. I have hear a few activators you would thing they was a DX’pedition they way the worked over the air-ways. Calling for S2S ONLY, Mobiles or QRP only , DX Only or North America Only. These in my book are good operators and they are a credit to the Hobby and the SOTA program. They are the ones that makes it Look good to new comers.
