Sota - dm/bw

@W4DOW: Hi Dow, i had seen your comment on sotawatch, i´m sorry that i don´t came back to 20m. i decided to go qrt after 200qso´s quickly after the wind building up on the summit…so, next time again…for sure !

Hi all,

had a nice activation on bw-228 today. at the beginning with a sunny sky, at the end cloudy and heavy wind comming up. go qrt after 202 qso´s logged. the vertical linked dipole fullsize for 12,20 and 40m works very fine with the feedpoint at abt. 15m. antenna top by 25m over ground. takes some time to shot a second wire in a neighbour tree to feed the coax in horizontal line…
antenna worked very well  not much time today on 12m,sorry, but mainband today was 40m in cw and ssb. by the way, had made also nice qso´s to NA on 12m with 3watt out only…good ears out there ! thanks !
big pile up on 40m due to my alert also for DLFF-096. think it was not easy for closer EU chasers against a wall of strong stations from east europe.

today was the last activation with as long activation time as the last ones. now i´m shorter on the summits, maybe with smaller antennas. its colder and more snow comes. in moment at 00:30utc the storm arrives here in DM/BW and i think its not safe on the summits here in my homezone. its good to have so much high trees on the summits in one way, in the other way if snow on the trees or ice its not good to go out by heavy wind to the risk of branches fallen down or something else  so i take a sota break a few days now…cu again soon, for sure !

and a photo from the vertical dipole. thats the why i don´t do much photos anymore…there is not much to see high up  visible is the bottom of the dipole with the mid for coax conection and the two links for 20 and 40.the top part is not visble with the poor handy cam. by high resolution you can see the open link for 40m with the anderson power poles. this photo is taken after setup without coax conected…not easy to fit the coax in a near horizontal way …most times a second line is shot over a neighbour tree…

at the same tree i try next time a 2x40m dipole or inv.L again…hope on better wx for going out to do 160m again…:frowning:

In reply to DF2GN:

Hi Klaus, thanks a lot for your tests and description here in the reflector.

Can I ask you about the feed point of your vertical dipole? Is there any sort of Balun or direct coax feed?

Are you using the thin RG-174 coax type?

Thanks a lot again, and please be safe on hills!! 73
