Some Dream Chasers Antenna Arrays

Hi All,

Just been home visiting friends in Greece and spotted these on my travels

Various locations on the Island of Rhodes

My mouth was definitely watering at the site of the one with all bands and no neighbours

Enjoy!!!

Unfortunately most of us can only dream as you say Tony and that’s part of the reason I started going up hills to operate. I now get more fun lying on my back lawn in the sun operating at the bottom of one of my portable masts than operating from the shack.

P.S. I worked a UA6 recently on 40m - he was blisteringly strong and told me about his 1kW out to a 7 element monoband beam… I just wonder how far away from civilisation he was located.

In reply to G4OIG:

7 elements on 40? That’s some feat of homebrew engineering or Radio Moskva 41m broadcast band surplus.

Surprisingly, that’s quite a modest antenna in comparison to this:

There was a visit to the Arkala station in HamiWaara09 last July. Unfortunately I missed that when I was activating the Iso-Syote with my modest 8 m long fishing rod.

Yes,thats all we can do at the moment Gerald,

Elaine and I are planning to move to Rhodes some time in the future, but that could be after we retire now.

If I don’t get my full call before we go I will have to sit the Greek Exam instead!!

Then I will be definitely getting something very similar to these arrays and also getting up the attaviros Mountains for Portable ops. (Approx 1200 mtrs ASL)

Dreams now, but fingers crossed reality soon ???!!!

Tony, while you’re in SV are you gunning to be the first SOTA activator to get a TEP contact on 2m?

In reply to M1DTJ:
Hi Chris,

Please excuse my ignorance but what is TEP? If I can I will??

I was going to check SV Association to see if any SOTA Summits are on Rhodes if so I will be activating them once I get licensed to operate from Europe. Either as a visitor or hopefully a resident?

Added, Just checked and the summit SV/AG-002 is not far from the village we are planning to move to so well up for it!!!

Thanks for that Andy,

If I can like those in the 1940’s I will!!

It will be fun to try, Especially if I get a good Antennas system??!!
