So many new antenna kits for the SOTA specialist

wow… now I have to look for the complete this project too, thanks

Thanks everyone. This is quite intriguing. I typically use a dipole but have a mono band end fed I built and a simple linked vertical for 10/15/20, but having Multiple bands without having to mess with links and 40 capability would be very nice.

I recently built a Sotabeams Pico Tuner for 40m:

It was very easy to build and works fine with my MTR3b. Although it’s only single band, it will be fine here in Central Europe as most of my contacts in Austria are on 40m. It’s got my total radio gear weight under 1kg. Unfortunately, it’s no longer in production at Sotabeams. It looks like DX Engineering have a few left:

I would recommend using slightly thinner wire for the toroid if you’re building for 40m, it was not easy squashing the windings to get a low enough operating frequency.

QRPGuys are temporarily closed due to the virus. I was fortunate to get one of the last straight key paddles before they went dark. They make and sell great products and I have no doubt they will be back soon.

I had a kit lying around for some time and with the extra time available due to the pandemic, I built mine to 20 meters. I sent an email to Richard asking why they stopped production but didn’t hear back. Seemed like a nice little kit even though mono band.

I agree, it’s a great kit and an extremely light antenna. However, the original 2m beam they made was a great antenna as well, I guess if it doesn’t sell it doesn’t sell. That said, you live in the USA, so you can still buy a couple from DX engineering. I baulked at the $42+ shipping for something that effectively goes in a jiffybag. Perhaps Sotabeams might consider the PCB only? That said, the instructions show how to build the circuit easily enough, It’s hardly beyond the wit of man to use some veroboard.
